By far the most common style is that of the wooden baby crib. Since time immemorial, babies have slept in wooden cribs, cradles and bassinets. Today, parents have many different types of wooden baby cribs to choose from, and both solid wood cribs and veneered cribs are available, the latter represent a cost effective options for parents who like the look of a wood, but cannot afford the cost associated with solid hardwood.

The most traditional style of the wooden baby crib is the Jenny Lind style, as these cribs typically are very simple, with all four sides constructed of turned spindles. These spindles have a distinctive, knobby appearance, which adds a touch of style to this otherwise plain crib.

Another option, and one which has become quite popular in the last decade, is that of the sleigh crib. This type of wooden baby crib is essentially a miniature version of the sleigh bed, currently popular in its full size form. Sleigh beds have distinctive curved headboards and footboards, resembling a horse drawn sleigh. An added bonus of this type of wooden baby crib is that most of them are convertible - they grow with children by using different components to form both a toddler bed, and in some cases a single bed for older children.

Some novelty types of wooden baby cribs also exist. For example, round cribs (typically made of spindles, in a style similar to the Jenny Lind crib) are available, as are corner cribs, ideal of the family living with space constraints. The primary disadvantage of this type of wooden baby crib is they require custom mattresses and bedding.

Regardless of the style of wooden baby crib, most are available in a wide variety of finishes, which will complement any style of décor and any nursery theme. Darker shades such as cherry or mahogany, as well as lighter shades like maple and blonde are fairly standard. Further, some veneered wooden baby cribs are painted in whites, pastel shades or even in dramatic hues like orange and black.
